Wainscoting a decorative and yet protective cover, like wood paneling, which is applied to the lower part of the interior wall. Having this style, our staircase is an art canvass and it will be transformed into a much more elegant stair. Please secure the following.
Things to be used:
Baseboard
Saw
Hammer
Nail gun
Nails
Measuring type
Marker
Masking types
STEP 1 – MEASURING
Figure it out how much baseboard is needed by measuring the staircase. Because the last thing we want to happen is that we run out of baseboard material when we are almost done to your project. It is recommended by carpenters that we should add ten percent to our supply so that we will have an extra material in times of repeats when we make mistakes, which can happen to any carpenter.
STEP 2 – CHOOSING THE MATERIALS
When selecting our materials especially the baseboards, we will try our best to find the nearest to our measurements so that we don’t waste our time in cutting or figuring out how to fit our baseboard we start the installation of Wainscoting. The thing is that we have to do cutting anyways but it will look better if there is no or less cutting found in our staircase. When buying our baseboard, we are going to have many kinds of variations of materials to have from because not all baseboards are made alike. We will make it sure that the baseboard that we are buying is made in a durable material or have a good quality.
STEP 3 – THE COLOR OF THE BASEBOARD
Also it is to be considered the color of the baseboard; we will want to make sure that it matches or relates the place where the stairs are located. For example, dark wood floors are not good to sandalwood baseboard but lighter one is perfect match. You may customize the color of your baseboard by paints but it will consume only our effort, resources and time and if you choose to customize the color of the baseboard, then we should use the masking type to cover the gaps which can be the entrance of any foreign object. Why not purchase a baseboard that can be installed without any hassle? Be noted that painting the baseboard while it is not yet installed is better than painting the baseboard on the wall.
STEP 4 – INSTALLING THE WAINSCOTING
Now we know what is the measurement and having the right material for our staircase. It is now time to put it together. Use the marker to draw a line as the guide of install a wainscoting and cut the baseboard accordingly, using the saw or any cutting tools. See to it that your nails are not big enough to damage the baseboard, use smaller nails to be used in installation. Because most of the baseboards that we are using are thinner enough for using a small nails. Nevertheless, start installing the cut baseboard on the bottom and make it sure that it is perfectly level and then install the upper parts of your wainscoting.
